Match Format

Jeopardy instructions

  • The game is very much like the televised version, with answers presented on the game board and contestants responding with questions.
  • The contestants will be using the Zoom platform.
  • Contestants will be playing Jeopardy as individuals.
  • Three to Four contestants will play in each match.
  • There are five categories: Under each column are five clues (phrased in answer form), increasing in value and difficulty.
  • The first contestant picks a category and a dollar amount.
  • The host then reads the answer.
  • Once the answer is read, contestants will have the opportunity to buzz in/signal. Once identified, they can give their answer in the form of a question. Failure to wait to be identified will result in a penalty.
  • The buzzer feature will be used. The first person to buzz must respond in the form of a question. (What is a governor? Who is Hillary Clinton?)
  • A correct response earns the dollar value of the clue and the opportunity to select the next clue from the board.
  • An incorrect response or a failure to answer within the time limit after buzzing deducts the dollar value of the clue from the contestant’s score and gives the second raised hand, the opportunity to respond and if incorrect,  the third contestant.
  • If none of the contestants gives a correct response, the host reads the correct response and the contestant who has most recently given a correct response to a previous answer chooses the next answer.
  • When the “Level Up” screen appears, only the contestant that selected that category/amount gets to play regardless of his/her score. The maximum wager is $1000, and the minimum is $100. If incorrect whatever was wagered will be subtracted. If correct the amount wagered will be added.
  • The quizmaster/quiz mistress reserves the right to curtail a match to the Final Jeopardy segment if the match time reaches 33 minutes without a winner for that match.
  • Final Jeopardy!  A category is announced by the host. The contestants will each agree on and write down a wager, based on the category, of as little as $0 or up to as much money as they have accumulated.  The contestants have 30 seconds to write a response, again phrased in the form of a question. This is sent directly to the host. Contestants having zero or negative points are not allowed to participate in Final Jeopardy.
  • Other features:  Points booster (all contestants get the same number of points)
  • Other special features may be added eg. Quiz for viewers, Masters Match

 Time Rules

  • Contestants should wait until the clues are given before pressing the buzzer.
  • 10 seconds will be allowed for contestants to buzz after the question has been read.
  • The buzz must be within that 10 seconds also.
  • After 10 seconds the first two contestants to buzz will be identified. The first contestant will be given a chance to respond.
  • The contestant will have 10 seconds to answer.
  • The host reserves the right to curtail a match to the Final Jeopardy segment if the match time reaches 33 minutes without a winner for that match.

Conduct Rules

  • All contestants should dress modestly for matches.
  • Contestants will be allowed to query during intermission and immediately following the match. No queries will be allowed after the show has ended on that day.
  • The decision of the judges will be considered final.
  • Contestants should not seek assistance from anyone or any study material during the matches. Immediate disqualification will result if there is evidence of this. Therefore you are encouraged to be in an environment void of others and disturbances (eg, radio, television)

Technical Rules

  • All contestants must have access to a reliable internet connection.
  • Contestants will be required to open cameras during the matches.
  • Contestants will only unmute when answering a question or when prompted by the host.
